Pa-paw | 7.30.14

The last time we were home in Alabama, I hit the jackpot of old photos of my grandparents.  Most were images I'd never seen before.  I was particularly fond of a shot showing my teen-aged granddad leaning up against an old Ford, clearly dressed to impress in his Sunday suit.  It's definitely a keeper.  :)  But while finding that photo was such a treasure... I like this new one below even better.  I like the smile lines, the freckles, and the baseball cap he's worn for as long as I can remember.

Comparing the two photographs - one taken well over 50 years ago, one taken moments before - I was reminded once again that in life we are always changing, learning, growing.  It is quite an adventure, quite a journey.

Hunt Villa Wedding | Jake & Kimberly | 7.12.14

Did you ever play Clue as a kid?  You know, the classic detective game where you move from room to room in a mansion to solve the mystery of: who done it - who killed Mr. Body!?  Welcome to a wedding day with a unique reception inspired by that very game.  Kimberly & Jake... way to make it your own!

Turning off the country road in Hallsville, driving through a long stretch of green fields (and yes, driving under a little black rain cloud as well), we discovered Hunt Villa.  You saw it in the distance, set up on the hill, with its obvious Spanish influence of carved wooden doors and arches - a beautiful place for a wedding. But we definitely knew we were in the right place when we saw Jake and Kimberly's dog, Mabel, lying underneath a tree with an orange ribbon around her neck - clearly ready to celebrate!  :)

Upon entering into the main hall, there was quite the flurry of activity by a host of family, as well as a cast of friends rehearsing lines for a surprise "murder mystery" skit for the reception.  Upstairs, the bride and groom readied themselves for the day... with a little help from the bridesmaids and groomsmen.

Nobody can resist a good swing.  :)

We're big fans of Jake and Kimberly!  Loved these fans as programs for the ceremony... pretty, and functional!  (Especially in Texas!)

Following the ceremony, guests made their way through the villa to the courtyard ...

... where they witnessed a "murder"...

... and found their seats via "evidence folders."  Each table was cleverly assigned a room name from the Clue game board.   And let's talk about their wedding cake!  We especially liked the touch of the bride and groom game pieces on top - definitely a first!

"...Above all things, have an intense
and unfailing love for one another."

We know there was an  incredible amount of work and energy that went into the planning of such a fun atmosphere for your wedding day, Kimberly and Jake!  Thank you so much for the opportunity to be a part of it with your many family and friends.

Congratulations to Prof. Plum and Mrs. White.... er ... Mr. & Mrs. Werner!  :)

Kimberly | Longview, Texas | 7.8.14

We’ve said it before ... this is one of our favorite occasions - a bridal session.  Preparations leading up to the wedding day often get hectic, but time with the bride beforehand is laid back and relaxed.  We have so appreciated getting to know Kimberly more over the last months, discovering a wonderfully kind, caring, and genuine friend.  She made a lovely bride, amplified by her excitement that increased day by day.  Let's just say... it was obvious that she's head over heels for Jake!

"Let your adornment be the inner self with the
lasting beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit."

And to end... a favorite.  :)
